HERO INGREDIENT
Cultivated for over 7,000 years by Inca and Aztec civilizations.
Adds the delicate crunch that makes every Bellu ball satisfying.
Rich in plant protein, fibre and minerals that help keep you going. Gluten-free.
A naturally resilient crop that needs less water and grows in challenging climates.
Amaranth has been cultivated for more than 7,000 years. Long before modern cereals existed, Inca civilization and the Aztec civilization grew amaranth as a staple food. It was prized for its resilience, nourishment, and ability to grow in difficult conditions.
Despite its tiny size, amaranth is packed with complete protein (all essential amino acids), fibre, and antioxidants, aiding in heart health, digestion, and weight management. It reduces inflammation, lowers LDL (“bad”)cholesterol, and is rich in iron, calcium, and magnesium. It is gluten free. It has a light, naturally nutty taste and a gentle crunch that makes every Bellu ball more satisfying.
But amaranth is not only ancient — it’s also a grain for the future.
The plant is naturally hardy, requires relatively little water, and grows well in challenging environments where other crops struggle. That makes it a more resilient and sustainable crop in a changing climate.
At Bellu, we use amaranth to bring together ancient food wisdom and modern snacking. It adds a light crunch, natural nutrition, and a connection to one of the world’s oldest cultivated grains.
Tiny grain. Big history.
Amaranth provides all nine essential amino acids, making it an excellent plant-based protein source for muscle building and satiety.
It is known to reduce total and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels, helping to prevent coronary heart diseases.
As a naturally gluten-free grain, it is safe for those with Celiac disease and provides high amounts of iron, manganese, phosphorus, and magnesium.
The seeds and leaves contain phenolic compounds and flavonoids, such as beta-carotene and lutein, which protect against chronic disease and oxidative stress.
Rich in minerals like calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, it strengthens bones and reduces the risk of osteoporosis.
Studies show that amaranth may help reduce inflammation by limiting the production of certain allergic-response compounds.
